A New League?

I heard there is a new league on the horizon.....wouldn't it be funny if they go to 4-on-4 hockey for the entire game?......it would attract the fans of North America who really need a more entertaining brand of hockey....who are starving for stars to get the icetime and room to display what they paid to see.The NHL needs more star players.....not players made to look like stars......it fools no hockey fan....instead of clogging the ice with huge players that play a slow and sluggish game and more officials than you really need.....downsize by going to 4-on-4 hockey for the entire game. This will produce more superstars, not players who are predictable or teams that play the dreaded "Trap" to slow the talent down or injure them so they can't be a threat anymore. If the stars are able to shine with more ice, icetime and a safer envirionment....more teams will have that SUPERSTAR they seek....the go to guy the fans want when they need a confidence boost.

A great example of what I am talking about is the Ottawa franchise......they have a good team, perhaps a great team....but it's still a boring and not really interesting team......fans in Ottawa get on their case because they fail in the play-offs.....that's because they don't get the entertaining player to have the honor of seeing or following his career.....they have a fine tuned machine that's expected now to progress and get closer to the cup.....hell even Pittsburgh plays more interesting hockey and is not even half the team Ottawa is.....because they have Mario Lemieux. Fans don't buy tickets in Pittsburgh to see them win the cup....yes it would be nice....but they 1st purchase tickets to see Mario. Of 30 teams each year only one team wins the cup.......the other 29 teams should be giving the fans more entertainment....you can't get that by paperboarding Europeans into the game and having them molded into superstars before they play in North America only to discover most of them want the money the "Dollar league" has to offer and go back home to spend it....this has been done to often and is no longer acceptable.....

A further example.....Chicago in the days of Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita......they won one cup....but after that nothing.....but after that fans paid to see Chicago play and were never cheated for entertainment......they had an exciting team even in a losing cause......exciting teams are remembered more than a lot of Stanley Cup winners.I watched old tapes of the original six....it showed smaller players in the big show....smaller because they didn't have the equipement required today not just because of their physical stature....it was an open game......you could follow the play better.....there was always a threat of that long on-the-stick pass that would excite you and give you that breakaway you wanted to see.....I could never afford to buy a ticket to see the game, but I would rise in my livingroom for that breakaway the way fans rose out of their seats in the arena.......I don't do that today and miss it.......you could see a hit coming and I like the players were prepared to take it...not the low career ending hits that's prominent in the game today.....in those days if you couldn't take a hit....the fans didn't want to see you in the game because it was part of the skill game....today fans don't need to see the career ending hit...for good hockey players are hard to find.

So...open up the game and introduce 4-on-4 hockey for the entire game.....the young stars will become superstars virtually overnight.....see the second page of this website for more....
